Prince William and Kate's Private Response to Harry and Meghan's UK Return Has Royal Watchers Talking — Details

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in Britain with their children, bringing the Sussexes closer to the royal family after more than six years in California.

The unexpected move has renewed questions about Harry's fractured relationship with Prince William — and how William and Kate will respond now that the Sussexes are back.

Harry and Meghan are settling back into life in Britain with Archie and Lilibet after more than six years in California, People reported.

The family arrived on August 26, ahead of a major change for the children. Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, are set to start school in the U.K. in September, though their school and the family's residence have not been disclosed.

Their arrival also closes some of the physical distance between Harry and William. One source told the publication that being back in Britain offers Harry the "best opportunity" to try to mend his strained relationship with his older brother.

William Reportedly Did Not Expect the Sussexes' Full UK Return

"Prince William was blindsided," royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital. According to Kinsey, Harry's talk of spending more time in the U.K. had already registered with William, but the decision to move the family back was reportedly unexpected.

"William now has to navigate a situation he did not create, did not ask for and, given the state of their relationship, almost certainly would not have chosen," she said.

Several royal experts who spoke with the same media source described William and Kate as "concerned" about the Sussexes' extended return.

British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard said the Prince and Princess of Wales were "feeling uneasy" about another chapter in what she called the "endless Sussex soap opera." Helena added, "It's about broken trust."

She claimed William believes Harry and Meghan spent years attacking the royal institution and then monetizing their grievances through their media operation. In Helena's assessment, William does not want to fuel or endorse behavior he considers damaging.

Meanwhile, Kensington Palace declined to discuss the matter. "We would never comment on private family matters," a spokesperson told the outlet.

William's Balmoral Visit Raised Questions About Possible Family Contact

William and Kate were at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, visiting King Charles III as reports about the Sussexes' return emerged. Reports cited by the outlet said Charles learned of Harry and Meghan's move three days before it became public.

Royal broadcaster Neil Sean said that Harry and Meghan had not, at that point, been invited to meet privately with the king. He also claimed such a meeting would not happen while William was at Balmoral.

"I've been told he has no desire to connect on any level with his younger brother," Neil said of William. Neither William nor Kensington Palace confirmed Sean's account.

Archewell, which handles the offices of Harry and Meghan, also declined to address the matter. "We do not comment on the family's private travel arrangements or meetings with the extended family," a spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

With both offices keeping private family matters out of their public statements, Prince William and Kate's own approach remained unclear.

How the Couple Was Said to Be Handling the Situation

William and Kate are resisting any "knee-jerk reaction" to Harry and Meghan's return, a source close to the Prince and Princess of Wales told People for its September 1 cover story.

"They are watching this space," the source said. "It's private — they don't feel the need to say anything or demonstrate anything outwardly."

Rather than responding publicly, the couple is reportedly waiting to see how events develop. But any reconciliation "will be a slow build," the source told the publication. "There is a deep sense of betrayal."

The family tensions are only one part of Harry and Meghan’s return. As previously reported, the move also comes with questions about where they will live, their royal status, and what drew them back to Britain.

A Family Homecoming Without a Palace Key

Harry and Meghan are expected to create a private home base outside London, although they have not purchased a British property. Their $14 million estate in Montecito, California, remains home, while their vacation property in Portugal is also staying firmly in the family portfolio.

In other words, this is not a dramatic removal van moment with every teacup headed across the Atlantic. The arrangement remains flexible, and one insider cautioned that it is "not necessarily a forever thing."

The couple will continue as private, nonworking members of the royal family under the agreement reached when they stepped away from official duties in 2020. King Charles III, 77, has reportedly made it clear that their status is not changing simply because they are living closer to Buckingham Palace.

Even so, the relocation represents quite the reversal. Harry told the BBC in May 2025, "I can't see a world in which I would bring my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point."

That world apparently arrived much sooner than expected. According to People, the move had been developing for roughly a year rather than being hastily arranged. "Step by step, they want to be in the U.K.," a source close to Harry said. "They want to have the time and give the kids the opportunity to be here."

Harry had even sounded out British singer Joss Stone about her family's experience of returning from Tennessee. After speaking with him at the WellChild Awards in September 2025, Joss said he appeared especially interested in British schools and the value of community for children.

Those questions look considerably less casual now.

Harry Never Quite Stopped Looking Back

California gave Harry and Meghan the privacy, distance, and room they wanted while Archie and Lilibet were small. It also allowed Meghan to develop her As ever business, which has further product launches planned.

Yet sources in California said Harry struggled to build a tight social circle of his own in Montecito. Britain still held the old friends and familiar community he could not fully replace, no matter how sunny the weather or enviable the estate.

"Harry never really stopped missing home," a source close to the couple said. "He's missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways."

His remaining patronages also require time in the country. Preparations are underway for the Invictus Games in Birmingham in July 2027, and one source predicted Harry would be "in the weeds on it every day."

The children were another powerful consideration. Meghan reportedly feels fortunate that Archie and Lilibet can experience life in both California and Britain rather than having to belong exclusively to one world.

Their July 2026 visit offered a preview. Archie and Lilibet reunited with Charles at Highgrove before visiting Althorp, Princess Diana's childhood home and final resting place, with Charles Spencer, Cat Jarman, and several relatives from Diana's side of the family.

Harry reportedly wants his children to understand his upbringing and their family history. For a father who lost his mother at 12, allowing them to know Diana's roots carries an importance that no glossy California childhood could quite duplicate.

The reunion at Highgrove was also the first time Charles had seen Archie and Lilibet in more than four years. An ally of the couple called it "a real positive," and the King's continuing cancer treatment makes the sudden reduction in distance especially meaningful.

Still, family connections and school plans explain only part of the timing. Meghan has something else under discussion, and it could place her in front of cameras in Britain for a reason that has absolutely nothing to do with royal walkabouts.

Meghan May Be Ready to Say Yes to Hollywood Again

Meghan is in early talks for a role in Season 3 of Guy Ritchie's Netflix crime drama "The Gentlemen," which films in the United Kingdom. The series follows an aristocratic family whose grand surroundings conceal a rather less respectable connection to a drug empire.

Yes, the former "Suits" actress who married a prince could potentially appear in a show about aristocrats with scandalous complications. The casting possibilities are almost cheeky enough to write themselves.

Nothing has been finalized. Reports briefly claimed the deal had already collapsed, but People reported that negotiations remain active.

The opportunity is not a whimsical idea that appeared after the moving arrangements began. Insiders said Harry and Meghan had been discussing her possible return to acting before the project emerged, and the role helped other pieces of their British plans fall into place.

Common back-pain drug may be linked to higher dementia risk, large study finds

A pain medication that millions of Americans rely on for chronic back pain may come with a hidden risk: a significantly higher chance of developing dementia or other cognitive problems, according to a major new study. Compared 26,000 adults Researchers from Case Western Reserve University and several partner institutions analyzed medical records from 68 health systems across the U.S., comparing 26,414 adults prescribed gabapentin for persistent low-back pain with a matched group who had similar pain — but didn’t take the drug. Their finding was sobering: Adults who received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI) within 10 years. The risk wasn’t limited to older adults. In fact, it was younger Americans who saw the most dramatic increases. Horrible childhood event shaped this Hollywood star’s journey

For years, this actress has delivered award-winning performances on screen, earning recognition and icon status in Hollywood. Yet her early life was anything but glamorous. Her biological father abandoned her before she was even born, and at 15, she was raped in her own home by a man who claimed he had paid her mother $500. Kidnapped by her stepfather Born in 1962 in Roswell, New Mexico, this Hollywood icon was the child of a brief union between her teen mother, Virginia, and an Air Force airman, Charles Harmon Sr. Her father deserted her then-18-year-old mother after a two-month marriage, long before she was born. Instead, when the actress was just three months old, her mother married a newspaper advertising salesman. Because her stepfather often switched jobs, the family relocated frequently. ”I was desperate for a sense of belonging so I adopted different characters wherever I went,” she once reflected. Her early years were marked by constant moves, fueled by her parents’ alco...
