CNN issues apology to Dolly Parton’s family after ‘brutal’ mistake following her death

Dolly Parton’s family has received an apology from CNN. The network made a shocking mistake while reporting on the country music legend’s death, sharing a photo of a lookalike instead of the artist.

Legendary country star Dolly Parton died on August 25 at the age of 80. Her team later revealed she passed away after a brief battle with cancer.

As news of her passing spread around the world, tributes quickly poured in for the beloved singer. Fans, fellow musicians and celebrities around the world have been paying tribute to the country music legend and remembering the woman behind some of the most beloved songs of all time.

But during a live CNN broadcast, viewers were shown a picture that was supposed to be Dolly. There was just one problem: It wasn’t Dolly Parton.

Instead, the network accidentally displayed a photo of Kelly Vohnn, a Las Vegas performer who makes a living as a Dolly Parton impersonator.

The image appeared during Laura Coates Live on the evening of August 25, as CNN reported on Parton’s death. The mistake was quickly noticed, and CNN later issued an apology to the Parton family.

“We regret the error and apologize to the Parton family,” a CNN spokesperson said.

Kelly Vohnn later spoke about the terrible mistake CNN made.

She told The New York Post that friends began texting her after seeing her image appear on national television.

“I started getting all these texts in from friends saying that I was on CNN, and I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“Somebody at CNN really messed up”

Vohnn had been devastated by Parton’s death herself. She praised the legendary country artist for giving her so much inspiration as both a woman and an artist.

“I was already heartbroken at losing Dolly because of how much she has given to me as a woman and an artist,” she continued. “But then to see these images of me on screen was just weird.”

Vohnn, a longtime singer and tribute performer who has portrayed Parton throughout her career, blasted the network for the embarrassing mix-up.

“Somebody at CNN really messed up and didn’t do their research,” she said.

Vohn later told Entertainment Weekly that she would “never disrespect Dolly, her family, or her loved ones this way.”

Dolly Parton will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

Common back-pain drug may be linked to higher dementia risk, large study finds

A pain medication that millions of Americans rely on for chronic back pain may come with a hidden risk: a significantly higher chance of developing dementia or other cognitive problems, according to a major new study. Compared 26,000 adults Researchers from Case Western Reserve University and several partner institutions analyzed medical records from 68 health systems across the U.S., comparing 26,414 adults prescribed gabapentin for persistent low-back pain with a matched group who had similar pain — but didn’t take the drug. Their finding was sobering: Adults who received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI) within 10 years. The risk wasn’t limited to older adults. In fact, it was younger Americans who saw the most dramatic increases. Younger adults saw shocking risk increases For people normally considered decades away from dementia: Ages 35–49 taking gabapentin ha...

Horrible childhood event shaped this Hollywood star’s journey

For years, this actress has delivered award-winning performances on screen, earning recognition and icon status in Hollywood. Yet her early life was anything but glamorous. Her biological father abandoned her before she was even born, and at 15, she was raped in her own home by a man who claimed he had paid her mother $500. Kidnapped by her stepfather Born in 1962 in Roswell, New Mexico, this Hollywood icon was the child of a brief union between her teen mother, Virginia, and an Air Force airman, Charles Harmon Sr. Her father deserted her then-18-year-old mother after a two-month marriage, long before she was born. Instead, when the actress was just three months old, her mother married a newspaper advertising salesman. Because her stepfather often switched jobs, the family relocated frequently. ”I was desperate for a sense of belonging so I adopted different characters wherever I went,” she once reflected. Her early years were marked by constant moves, fueled by her parents’ alco...
