The School’s Most Beautiful Girl Invited Me to Prom While Everyone Else Teased Me for My Looks – 20 Years Later, She Didn’t Recognize Me, and What I Did Changed Her Life

Twenty years after prom night, the girl who once changed my life appeared at my front door during a storm. She didn’t recognize me. I recognized her instantly. And before the next evening was over, I would do something neither of us ever saw coming. The rain hammered against my roof so hard that night it sounded like the sky itself had collapsed When the doorbell rang, I expected a paper bag of takeout and a quick exchange of polite words. Instead, I opened the door and found the one person I never thought I would see again. Charlotte. She stood on my porch wearing a faded delivery jacket and a damp baseball cap. Water dripped from the ends of her hair. Even after twenty years, I knew her immediately. The same dimples. The same warm brown eyes. The same gentle smile that had once lit up a high school gym and changed the course of my life. “Your order, sir,” she said softly. Sir. Not Tyler. Not even the slightest sign of recognition. Back in high school, I had been the overweight ...

Bungee jumping expert shares harrowing news after 21-year-old dies when ‘staff forgot to attach safety rope’

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, 21, was preparing to take part in a bungee jump from Ponte do Esqueleto in Limeira, São Paulo, on Saturday. She was launched from the bridge without a safety rope and plunged to her death. Now, the president of the Brazilian Rope Jump Association has commented on the tragedy.

A video of the fatal accident, now shared online, shows the young woman being carried by two workers before they release her from the bridge. Seconds later, voices shout, “The rope, people, the rope,” according to The Sun.

According to reports, Maria had not been connected to a safety rope before the jump. Military Police later indicated that employees allegedly failed to attach the safety equipment to her harness before she was released.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but Maria was pronounced dead there. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. Initially, however, some of those involved appeared not to be cooperating with the police.

According to The Sun, some individuals reportedly fled the scene after the accident. The suspects deny fleeing. Police later used a helicopter to search nearby areas, found at least two people, and arrested them.

One of those arrested, Luis Felipe, told local police that there were no clearly defined responsibilities among staff during the jumps and that equipment checks were carried out jointly. When asked who was responsible for attaching Maria to the safety rope, he reportedly said he “can’t remember.”

Another suspect, Maicon Fernandes Cintra, reportedly gave similar answers. According to People, six people have been brought in for questioning. Three men were arrested and charged with homicide with implied malice.

“It was a team there that wasn’t regulated; they didn’t even have authorization to be there,” Delegate Andrea Dantas Levy told G1, per People. “They ended up organizing this event, and this fatality happened today, in my perception, due to a failure to verify and supervise the placement of the rope on the victim’s jump.”

Meanwhile, Marco Antonio de Campos Gonçalves Junior, president of the Brazilian Rope Jump Association and head of the RopeTrips agency, which organizes jumps from the same bridge, has also commented on the tragedy. He was not involved in the incident.

According to LADbible, he told AcidadeON that authorization has never been required to conduct jumps from the bridge.

“We do a vertical activity, which is not prohibited and does not require authorisation,” he said, according to the outlet.

His agency has canceled an upcoming jumping event at Skeleton Bridge scheduled for July 4. He has organized multiple events at this location in the past. He insists these events always took place in the presence of Military Police and municipal civil guards, though no authorization was requested.

“The way forward is to regulate”

The City Hall of Limeira, however, says responsibility for the bridge lies exclusively with the federal government.

“Since the beginning of 2025, the municipal administration had been adopting administrative measures and demanding action from the federal bodies responsible for the area,” they told O Globo in a statement, according to LADbible.

“The tragedy this Saturday (13), which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman, makes the continuation of this omission unsustainable and unacceptable.”

According to reports, Marco Antonio de Campos Gonçalves Junior is set to visit the Limeira City Council on Monday to discuss how rope jumping at Skeleton Bridge should be regulated in the future.

He said: “The way forward is to regulate, not to prohibit. It has to be regulated to make it safe for customers and operators,” according to LADbible.

According to him, the tragedy was caused by inadequate safety management and poor operational standards.

Common back-pain drug may be linked to higher dementia risk, large study finds

A pain medication that millions of Americans rely on for chronic back pain may come with a hidden risk: a significantly higher chance of developing dementia or other cognitive problems, according to a major new study. Compared 26,000 adults Researchers from Case Western Reserve University and several partner institutions analyzed medical records from 68 health systems across the U.S., comparing 26,414 adults prescribed gabapentin for persistent low-back pain with a matched group who had similar pain — but didn’t take the drug. Their finding was sobering: Adults who received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI) within 10 years. The risk wasn’t limited to older adults. In fact, it was younger Americans who saw the most dramatic increases. Younger adults saw shocking risk increases For people normally considered decades away from dementia: Ages 35–49 taking gabapentin ha...

Queen Camilla sends clear message to Trump with ‘key’ clothing detail

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on Monday for a four-day state visit, stepping into a moment where relations between the U.S. and the U.K. have grown noticeably strained. In the past, Donald Trump has openly expressed admiration for the British Royal  Family. During a visit to the U.K. in September alongside Melania Trump, he spoke warmly about the long-standing alliance between the two nations.Family “The word ‘special’ does not begin to do it justice,” Trump said at the time. “We’re like two notes in one chord, or two verses of the same poem – each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together.” Since then, however, the tone has shifted. Tensions have escalated, particularly in relation to disagreements over international policy, including the conflict involving Iran. Trump has publicly criticized Keir Starmer, calling him a “loser” for refusing to support U.S. military action and remarking that he was “no Churchill.” He also ...
