New details have emerged in the mysterious disappearance of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, as federal authorities released a suspect description and a forensic sketch tied to the case.
The FBI has released new identifying details about the person seen on video at Nancy Guthrie's home the morning she vanished without a trace.
According to NBC News, authorities are searching for a man who stands between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and has an average build. Investigators said he was wearing a black, 24-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack, based on surveillance footage reviewed by the agency.
The Sketch That Sparked A Frenzy
Around the same time, a forensic sketch tied to the case was shared publicly by Lois Gibson, a longtime FBI sketch artist.
In her Facebook post, Gibson explained that she created the image using surveillance photos of the suspect. She said parts of the man's face were covered by a ski mask, and she had to estimate the hidden features.
Gibson noted that only the eyes and part of the lips and mustache were somewhat clear in the footage.
Drawing on her 43 years of experience assisting detectives with similar images, she said she did her best with the available material and acknowledged she would accept responsibility if the likeness proved to be significantly inaccurate.
She also urged critics to create their own version instead of attacking her work.
The sketch quickly drew attention online, prompting a wave of reactions from netizens. One person wrote, "It Looks like the delivery driver they let go [sic]??!!!"
Another commented, "I can't wait until they catch this guy and see how close you are, great job Lois." A third added, "I bet you're close."
A Survivor Turned Sketch Artist
Gibson's path to forensic art began decades ago after a violent assault changed her life. In a November 2012 interview with ABC News, she said she was 21 years old and working as a model and dancer in Los Angeles when she was raped.
"I got attacked by a guy who almost choked me to death for 25 minutes straight," said Gibson, who was 62 at the time and worked for the Houston Police Department. "When he finished, I was bleeding down my throat and my eyes."
She said the trauma left her seeking justice. "Like nine out of 10 girls, I was too traumatized and wanted justice -- but I couldn't get it," she added.
Gibson later witnessed police arresting a man she recognized as her attacker. "I saw the arrest," she mentioned. "I know what it is to see justice ... It changes your life."
She shared that the experience motivated her to pursue a degree in forensic art from the University of Texas at Austin. She has since built a career helping law enforcement identify suspects through sketches.
DoorDash Driver Speaks After Detention
Meanwhile, a man who said he was questioned in the kidnapping of Guthrie has been released.
In a post shared to X on February 11, 2026, CBS News correspondent Andres Gutierrez included a video interview with a man identified only as Carlos. The man said he was detained after a traffic stop in Rio Rico, Arizona.
Carlos works as a DoorDash driver and was pulled over while making deliveries. He said authorities told him they had stopped him in connection with a kidnapping.
He told reporters that officers searched his car and home but did not initially ask him questions. He also said he did not know who Guthrie is or how she's related to Savannah Guthrie, as he doesn't follow the news or watch the "Today" show. He was unaware of why law enforcement believed he might be connected to her disappearance.
Carlos added that, as a delivery driver, it is possible he had been in Guthrie's neighborhood before, but he had no specific memory of doing so.
Carlos described feeling "terrified" and "like I was being kidnapped" when authorities took him into custody. "They didn't tell me anything at the beginning."
"I didn't do anything... I'm innocent," he expressed, adding that he hopes whoever took Guthrie gets caught so he can clear his name.
Blood on the Porch: Forensic Clues Deepen the Mystery
As authorities continue to search for answers, investigators are also examining disturbing physical evidence found outside Guthrie's home.
According to recent reports by Fox News, photos show blood droplets on the ground in front of Guthrie's front door and in her driveway. Law enforcement confirmed that DNA testing determined the blood belonged to Guthrie.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Baden told Fox News Digital that the droplets may offer insight into what happened.
"Nancy Guthrie is bleeding from some area, either the hands or the face," Baden said. "The nature of the blood spots with little pale centers or donut shapes are typical for drops that come from the nose or mouth, because they're mixed with air."
"That means she's coughing up blood or dripping from the nose. Otherwise, there would be a dripping from a cut from above, possibly from the hands or face," Baden opined.
Baden said the droplets suggest Guthrie may not have been able to stop the bleeding as she moved from the porch to the driveway.
"This blood dropped onto the porch area during an abduction," he explained. "They indicate that it did not occur by innocent means. They happened not in a normal, innocent way where it could be covered up or have iodine and bandages put on it."
He added that the shape and location of the droplets are significant.
"These are not innocent droplets. From the shape, number of droplets and the place of the droplets outside the house on the porch, they are entirely consistent and indicative of occurring during an abduction," stated Baden.
Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona, home in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026. She was reported missing later that day after she did not attend a weekly livestream of her church with friends.
As the desperate search for Nancy Guthrie continues, authorities are focusing on the suspect description, the released sketch, witness accounts, and forensic evidence collected at her Tucson home.
Investigators have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward as efforts to locate the 84-year-old remain ongoing.
