Melania Trump sparks internet frenzy with White House Christmas outfit

First Lady Melania Trump may not always seek the spotlight — but her fashion ensures she gets it.

And when she stepped out on Monday to welcome the White House Christmas tree, it wasn’t the evergreen that stole the show.

The North Portico of the White House was steeped in holiday pageantry on November 24, 2025, but the towering 18.5-foot Christmas tree arriving by horse-drawn carriage wasn’t what stopped people in their tracks.

The First Lady stepped out in Washington, D.C., to accept the official White House Christmas tree and kick off the season’s traditions. But what should have been a charming, heartwarming photo op quickly morphed into a full-blown online spectacle — all because of her outfit.

Also known as the Blue Room Christmas Tree, the massive Michigan-grown fir from Korson’s Tree Farms rolled up to the mansion in classic style: two majestic Clydesdales, Logan and Ben, pulled the carriage while a military band played festive tunes. Three handlers in vintage suits and top hats completed the nostalgic scene.

The tradition of presenting the White House Christmas tree dates back to the 19th century, though accounts differ on the exact year it began.

Since 1961, the tree has carried a themed motif each holiday season, chosen by the First Lady of the United States.

And as Melania stood on the North Portico steps, cool and composed as ever, praising the delivery as “a beautiful tree,” social media had already zoomed in, not on the tree, but on her winter look.

The coat that launched a thousand comments

The First Lady wore a crisp winter-white Dior coat, bright red leather gloves, and tartan Manolo Blahnik heels, a bold, high-fashion mix of holiday colors. And the internet had thoughts. Lots of them.

“She wore her pajama robe,” one user sniped.

Another quipped, “White bathrobe and red rubber gloves.”

“Bathrobe?” one person asked, with another joking, “It looks like she’s auditioning to be the angel on top of the tree…”

Someone else summed it up bluntly: “She’s literally wearing a bathrobe.”

Another harsh remark read: “She got new shoes from Piggy.”

But plenty of admirers jumped to her defense.

“Melania is rockin [sic] her plaid stilettos ♥️,” a supporter wrote.

Another added, “She has the best shoes. Every.Time [sic].”

A third asked, “Could FLOTUS be any more glamorous! Simply gorgeous!”

Others praised her whole presence:

“She is beautiful and sophisticated. Poise and gracefulness,” one fan said. And another declared, “Elegance is back in the White House.”

”Cinnamon blonde”

Her coat got people arguing, but experts were far more interested in her new hair color, a warm, bright makeover that immediately grabbed attention.

Suzie McGill of Rainbow Room International told Hello! that the luminous new shade perfectly flattered Melania’s skin tone and delivered a “polished upgrade” that brightened her appearance without ever looking overdone.

Kirsty Judge of the Rush Artistic team dubbed the look “cinnamon blonde,” describing it as a luxurious mix of tawny beige, warm acorn undertones, and “vanilla blonde pieces” woven through for added radiance.

Old controversies resurface

But even the chic Dior and the glowing new hair couldn’t completely overshadow the baggage of Christmas past.

The ceremony reminded many of the secretly recorded 2018 tapes that went public in 2020 on Anderson Cooper 360, where Melania vented her frustrations about holiday duties and media scrutiny.

“I’m working … my [expletive] off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a [expletive] about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” she said in the recording.

She continued, “OK, and then I do it and I say that I’m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas and they said, ‘Oh, what about the children that they were separated?’ Give me a f****** break. Where they were saying anything when Obama did that? I can not go, I was trying get the kid reunited with the mom. I didn’t have a chance – needs to go through the process and through the law.”

The controversial tapes were secretly recorded by Melania Trump’s former friend and adviser, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Stephanie Grisham, who was Trump’s chief of staff at the time, fired back quickly.

“Secretly taping the First Lady and willfully breaking an NDA to publish a salacious book is a clear attempt at relevance,” Grisham said. “The timing of this continues to be suspect, as does this never-ending exercise in self-pity and narcissism.”

Common back-pain drug may be linked to higher dementia risk, large study finds

A pain medication that millions of Americans rely on for chronic back pain may come with a hidden risk: a significantly higher chance of developing dementia or other cognitive problems, according to a major new study. Compared 26,000 adults Researchers from Case Western Reserve University and several partner institutions analyzed medical records from 68 health systems across the U.S., comparing 26,414 adults prescribed gabapentin for persistent low-back pain with a matched group who had similar pain — but didn’t take the drug. Their finding was sobering: Adults who received six or more gabapentin prescriptions were 29% more likely to be diagnosed with dementia and 85% more likely to develop mild cognitive impairment (MCI) within 10 years. The risk wasn’t limited to older adults. In fact, it was younger Americans who saw the most dramatic increases. Younger adults saw shocking risk increases For people normally considered decades away from dementia: Ages 35–49 taking gabapentin ha...
