On September 13, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office reported that two boys, aged just 12 and 13, broke into Friendship Elementary School in Deltona, Florida. Deputies say the pair first entered the campus during the day before sneaking back later that night. Once inside, the pre-teens allegedly went on a destructive rampage – hurling books across the library floor, toppling furniture, and scrawling graffiti on doors. Deputies responding to the alarm arrived to find the library’s media center completely ransacked and in ruins. “Overnight, deputies responded to a fire alarm at Friendship Elementary School in Deltona. Teen boy drowns while saving four young children from powerful currents – his family reveals his legacy

Grappling with the “immeasurable and seemingly never ending” pain of losing his hero son, father Shivy Brooks is proud of his “baby boy” Bryce, who selflessly put the lives of four young children ahead of his own. Back in 2023, Bryce was vacationing with his family in Florida when he saw a group of young children struggling with powerful rip currents that kept burying their heads underwater. Not thinking twice, the teenager immediately reacted and jumped in to help. As he did so, the unexpected happened. Atlanta’s Bryce Brooks, 16, was on a family trip in Pensacola when he and some friends “witnessed four other younger kids who they did not know being pulled by the current,” father Shivy Brooks explained at a news conference. Without hesitation, Bryce, 16, and two other friends jumped in to help. “Our son Bryce, while being pulled by currents himself literally called for help, but not for himself, he was calling for help for the little kids he was looking out for,” Shivy, who is ...

I Gave My Coat to a Cold, Hungry Mother and Her Baby – a Week Later, Two Men in Suits Knocked on My Door and Said, 'You're Not Getting Away with This'

Eight months after losing my wife of 43 years, I thought the worst the quiet could do was keep me company—until a freezing Thursday in a Walmart parking lot, when I gave my winter coat to a shivering young mother and her baby. I figured I’d never see them again. I'm 73, and ever since my wife Ellen died eight months ago, the house has felt too quiet. "It's you and me against the world, Harold." Not peaceful quiet, but the kind that settles into your bones and makes the refrigerator hum sound like a fire alarm. For 43 years, it was just us. Morning coffee at the wobbly kitchen table. Her humming while she folded laundry. Her hand finding mine in church, squeezing once when the pastor said something she liked, twice when she was bored. We never had children. Not by choice exactly, not by accident either. Doctors, timing, money, one bad surgery, and then it was simply the two of us. "It's you and me against the world, Harold," she used to say. "And w...

7 warning signs your body can send before a heart attack

A heart attack often seems like it comes out of nowhere, but your body may give you subtle warning signs one month before an attack. These early symptoms, frequently mistaken for stress, fatigue, or even indigestion, are begging for your attention and recognizing them could save your life! According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), one person dies of cardiovascular disease every 33 seconds, making heart disease the leading cause of death for men and women. “A heart attack, also called a myocardial infarction, happens when a part of the heart muscle doesn’t get enough blood,” the CDC writes. “The more time that passes without treatment to restore blood flow, the greater the damage to the heart muscle.” But a recent study – published in the National Library of Medicine – explains that some symptoms are present one month before the attack, giving people ample time to get medical help. Let’s review some of these symptoms so you can identify when you’re having heart-related i...

Hugh Laurie says ‘dad would have hated’ ‘fake version’ of doctor

Even though TV’s most famous doctor was making $700,000 an episode in its final season, House star Hugh Laurie said he feels like a fraud. Regretting that he played “a fake version” of a doctor instead of a becoming a real one like his father wanted, Laurie admitted that his “dad would have hated” the shortcut that he chose to follow. Keep reading to learn more about Laurie’s decision to be an actor instead of a doctor. Dr. William (Ran) Laurie had huge hopes for the youngest of his sons, Hugh Laurie who was born in June 1959. The junior Laurie was following in the footsteps of his esteemed father, a physician who before starting his career was a 1948 Olympic gold medalist in coxless pairs (rowing) and a graduate of a college of the University of Cambridge. When the British-born Laurie was studying at the same college as his dad, he too was a member of the rowing team with plans to train for the Olympics, and then go to medical school. There’s a Reason Your Rice Cooker Came With a Paddle- Here’s How To Use It x Now Playing x video of: Real Food Live | Brown Rice Crispy SquaresPlay Video

If you’ve ever purchased a rice cooker, you may have noticed a surprise addition in the box. It’s a rice paddle, and it looks like a wide, flat spatula with a round head and small handle. It is typically made of plastic or wood. In Japan, they are called “shamoji,” and they are a kitchen staple. So don’t toss it into the utensil drawer with other rarely used spatulas. Keep it alongside the rice cooker, which will keep the appliance in good condition while significantly improving the rice’s texture. The purpose of the rice paddle Rice cookers are lined with a nonstick coating, which means they should only be used with certain types of utensils, namely plastic and wood. Tools made of metal and similarly hard materials can scratch and scrape the coating, making it peel off and become ineffective. So the cooker comes with its own rice paddle that’s safe to use with the main product. Simply put, the rice paddle is meant to stir, scoop, and serve rice — all without mashing up the grains...
